Open Research

My Philosophy

I am a strong advocate for Open Research practices, as they play a vital role in ensuring transparency, inclusivity, and rigour within academia. To achieve these goals, I incorporate strategies such as pre-registration, sharing open data (both quantitative and qualitative), and fostering collaboration across my work and teaching. For instance, you can explore an example of my efforts in this area here.

Open Science Framework

I frequently rely on the OSF as a platform to facilitate my engagement with key Open Research practices, including pre-registration, pre-prints, open materials, and data sharing. To learn more about my current Open Research projects, you can explore additional details on my OSF.

Open Data and Materials

Whenever possible, I make my data openly accessible to ensure transparency and reproducibility. For my quantitative projects, I share anonymised data along with reproducible R code on the OSF. Additionally, I actively engage with open data practices in qualitative research, an area that remains underutilised. I am passionate about expanding efforts in this space and look forward to contributing further to its growth.

Open Publishing

I am committed to open publishing and strive to make my papers immediately available as pre-prints. Additionally, I take full advantage of my institution’s open-access arrangements with publishers to ensure wider reach and accessibility. Recognising the importance of inclusivity, I also create simplified versions of my research outputs, making them more accessible to external partners and community stakeholders.

Open Research Activities

The following are some of my recent and historical activities relating to open research.

NTU Open Research Awards 2024

I received an NTU Open Research Award in 2024 for my activities during a project exploring body satisfaction, quality of life, and gender congruence for trans men.
